New solar system activated every 1.6 minutes in U.S. in Q3 2015
Activation of a new solar system in the United States occurred every 1.6 minutes in the third quarter (Q3) of 2015, according to the Q3 2015 Solar Market Insight report from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA),
This 1.6-minute mark is a 36 percent increase from the SEIA-reported 2.5-minute mark seen in 2014.
Solar increases seen in all sectors
According to the SEIA, Q3 2015 saw the connection on 81,000 new photovoltaic (PV) systems in the U.S. Utility-scale PV makes up the largest chunk of all capacity — 42 percent — and residential solar capacity increased 12 percent quarter over quarter (69 percent year over year).
More solar growth expected now through 2016
In 2014, renewable energy consumption was the highest in nearly 80 years, and the solar capacity in the U.S. is expected to double from 2014 to 2016.
