A Syrian refugee camp in Jordan will use solar energy to help aid a growing need for power in the camps.
Ikea and the United Nations Refugee Agency are teaming up to build a new solar farm for the Azraq Syrian refugee camp in Jordan. The camp is currently home to at least 27,000 Syrian refugees.

The joint project between Ikea and the United Nations Refugee Agency, known as the Brighter Lives for Refugees campaign, plans to use solar energy to help refugees in a number of ways.
- The project provides refugees with solar lanterns, so that both education and business activities can continue after the sun goes down.
- Solar street lights are provided to allow refugees to hold community gatherings in the nighttime hours.
- Construction of a 6 MW, grid-connected solar farm will begin in order to bring more modern conveniences to the camp.
